‘Silent Laughter’

Silent Laughter

This morning, in the kitchen,

my daughter made me laugh.

Rumbling my diaphragm.

She laughed too,

her head thrown back,

exposing small white teeth

crooked on the bottom.

In the bathroom, before bed,

I cried while brushing my teeth.

Knowing you would never see

the person she is beginning to become.
