MEANING OF RAVENS

The universe is sick of my solitary seasons; its storms are radical acts of presence & summer

unsettles every prayer inside of me as it turns slowly. I can’t stand the feel of it, the metaphor of

it all. Pry it open / rupture it. I am numb. I listen to women talk of string lights and DJs as they

lightly laugh and say depressed. I haven’t figured it out yet, how I’m different from them or why

august tastes like strawberry and collapse. Some women are poetry waiting to be written and

some are the curled-up pages of old liberty books, earmarked chapters of love letters written

hundreds of years ago. Reincarnated again and again. Unfinished business.

Ashley Edwards is a Canadian writer, writing into and out of chaos. A devoted poet yet a curious writer of any genre. A strong conversational tone and fearless voice. Join her on a journey into madness, surrealism & one day an MFA. Publications include Rowayat literary & wingless dreamer anthology, WILDsound + more. She studied poetry at the university of Toronto and feels fortunate to be on the staff at a small press. As an immigrant, she has luckily found a home in both Canada and poetry.
