downpour

at the bottom of the shower

my heels are softening,

giving in to the gentle teasing

of sweet orange, cinnamon leaf, cedar. warm scents, dripping

like popped yolks down

the horizon, the yellow yellow sun. here i have no myrrh,

but i imagine myself encased

in cracking bark that aches like a callus,

weeping soft, sweet oil

in repentance for the crime

of soured want. it is no real sin

to want to grow round for you,

ripe with sugary citrus promise,

but i as a being shy away

from what i fear. and it is there —

the cinnamon bark, the striped cedar — waiting for the acquiescence of my closed eyes.
