‘Autism Spectrum Disorder, Type 1’ & ‘Near and Nigh’
Emily Adams is a photographer captivated by the spaces between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Her work explores urban environments, quiet streets, and overlooked corners, where natural light transforms the mundane into something contemplative.
Autism Spectrum Disorder, Type 1
Take a jar of sugar
Take a jar of sand
That bleached white sand
From the Florida Gulf Coast
Mix them together in a bowl
Then take a pair of tweezers
And try to separate
The sand from the sugar
One granule at a time.
Near and Nigh
The last at bat
Of an aging slugger
Two strikes down
One strike away
From a lifetime to remember
Or a foul ball away
From prolonging it
A little longer
The end is near
The end is nigh.
The last mile
Of a cross country road trip
A few more bumps
A few more rattles
The end is near
The end is nigh.
A divorcing couple
Next on the court docket
They vowed “till death do us part”
Neither is dead
But they did part
The end is near
The end is nigh.
The last breaths
Of a dying old man
Gasping for air
That Christ himself once breathed
The end is near
The end is nigh.
